Overview

Some Canvas quizzes and exams require the use of Honorlock for online proctoring. Before taking a proctored exam, ensure you are using Google Chrome and have the Honorlock Chrome extension installed.

Resolution

To take an Honorlock-proctored exam in Canvas, follow these steps:

1. Navigate to the Canvas course containing your exam.
2. Select the quiz or exam.
3. If prompted, install the Honorlock Chrome extension.
4. Select Launch Proctoring.
5. Complete the required equipment checks and identity verification.
6. Follow any additional prompts, including the room scan if required.
7. Select Begin Exam to start your assessment.

Troubleshooting

If Honorlock is not working as expected, try the following troubleshooting steps.

Ensure you are using Google Chrome

Honorlock is only compatible with the Google Chrome web browser.

To verify that you are using Google Chrome, hover over the browser icon in your taskbar. If you are not using Google Chrome, download and install it before launching your exam.

Ensure Honorlock is installed

To verify that the Honorlock extension is installed, select the Extensions (puzzle piece) icon next to the address bar in Google Chrome. Confirm that Honorlock appears in the list of installed extensions.

Remove and reinstall the Honorlock extension

If Honorlock continues to experience issues, perform a clean installation of the extension.

1. Open the Extensions page in Google Chrome.
2. Remove the Honorlock extension (view screen shot below).
3. Remove any other remote proctoring extensions that may be installed.
4. Clear your browser's cache and cookies.
5. Reinstall the Honorlock extension.

Create a new Google Chrome profile

If issues persist, create a new Google Chrome profile dedicated to Honorlock. This helps prevent conflicts with other browser extensions.

1. Open Google Chrome.
2. Select the Profile icon in the upper-right corner of the browser window.
3. Select Add or Continue without an account, depending on your version of Chrome.
4. Enter a name for the new profile.
5. Open the new profile and install only the Honorlock extension before launching your exam.
